CBD is Made for Women
Why Cannabidiol is Made for Us Women?
I don’t know about you, but my body has always been a mystery to me. And I like it that way. I don’t want to understand every aspect of it, like why my period hurts one month but not the next. Or why the scale says I’ve gained weight when I feel light as a feather. I, on the whole, don’t care to be measured, weighed, examined, peered into for secrets and clues. I prefer to just take it as it comes; accept what I cannot change and be grateful that my body has acted so efficiently throughout the years, carrying babies, birthing them, nursing them all so magically.
CBD feels like a woman to me. It is mysterious. It cannot be labeled, boxed in, quantified or stripped of its magic. It is unique; and while scientists put it under their microscopes, scratching their heads over whether it is a supplement or medicine, or whether its effect can be felt in the brain or not, we women, make our oils, our creams, our joints. We feel its power and we pass it on.
Cannabidiol, CBD, is one of the non-psychoactive cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Though we know that CBD doesn’t produce the “high” that’s associated with cannabis, it produces something quieter, something that softens the edges of anxiety rather than obliterating them. It promotes relaxation and restfulness. Not ironically, CBD treats a number of issues that disproportionately affect women, such as autoimmune diseases.
Turns out that 75% of people suffering from autoimmune diseases are women. These diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, celiac disease, multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes. Why is CBD so effective on so many of them? For starters they share a common thread: Inflammation. CBD fights inflammation.
CBD also is an effective treatment for anxiety. Though they don’t know exactly how it works, patients report to their doctors that it does work. They feel better. People with post-traumatic stress disorder repeatedly report that CBD soothes their stress without leaving them in a drugged-out stupor.
People suffering from depression, acne, migraines, sleep disorders and PMS all claim that CBD eases their discomfort. Oh and Sex, yes, that’s where I come in. CBD is amazing for sex.
We, Americans, are so uncomfortable talking about sex, and yet, every doctor, no matter how old and stodgy (though they still might argue that sex is more important for men) would agree that healthy sex life is integral to overall wellness.
And yet, so many women (men, not so much) have difficulty enjoying sex because they can’t relax. That’s where CBD comes in— easing the nerves, lessening tension, improving blood flow and increasing moisture. Trust me, it’s a revelation. Once you try CBD sex, you won’t want to go back. And why should you?
The world is catching on. Retail sales of CBD consumer products in 2019 are estimated to reach as much as 3 billion. By 2025 that figure could hit 16 billion. It’s in bath balms, lip balms, and high-end face oils. Martha Stewart is developing her own line; Barneys already has a beauty line and CVS is erecting stands of CBD infused products all over America, even though its legality continues to be murky. The government is just beginning to peer into this magic part of the cannabis flower, to take it apart, inspect it, dissect it, lay bare all if its mysteries.
I, for one, don’t care much about their results. I care that it comes from the earth, that it is pesticide-free and organic. I care about how my body feels when I’m using it—the aches and pains that dissolve from my tired feet when I apply a CBD cream; the anxiety that is lifted with a mint or the way my body responds like a teenager to sex with the same man I’ve been with for thirty years. I don’t ask why it works, or try to dissect the reasons behind it. I just allow it in, and I am grateful for it.
